Winter/Spring Events

Grady Alexis Gallery at El Taller Latino Americano is pleased to present  “Uninterrupted”, a retrospective of Artworks created by native New Yorker, artist, art educator, poet and story-teller, Aleathia Brown.

This retrospective marks five decades of Aleathia making ART!  Works in the exhibition include: paintings, mix-media and performance art. Exhibition programming includes two events, an Adult StressMelt session, on Friday, February 28th and the film screening,  UNTITLED: Docu-Story on Sunday, March 1st.

During the Adult StressMelt session, on Februrary 28th, from 4-7pm, Aleathia will lead participants through coloring and conversation to help adults relax. The film, UNTITLED: Docu-Story, provides an unflinching view into Aleathia’s journey as an artist.

The exhibition opened with an “Art Wedding”, a formal ceremony in which Aleathia publicy married her art. The “Art Wedding” which live-streamed on Jan 25, 2020 highlighted Aleathia’s steadfast and serious commitment to her art and high spirituality. The ceremony was officiated by Minister Cherish Malaran. Past and current students adorned in painted painter aprons served as the maid and maiden of honor.

Aleathia’s bold use of texture and color and the themes of social justice, culture and gender are hallmarks of this exhibition.

We, the ‘Bare Head Beauties’ of Unveiled Unlocked are a part of the Hair Free Community and we are requesting you join us as we share our message. We will hold a press conference on the steps of City Hall East of 250 Broadway in lower Manhattan on Tuesday May 17, 2016 at 12pm

We are announcing the launching of Global Bare Head Beauty Day. We exact positive changes in our communities and on this day we unite ALL by expanding American society’s perception of the “beauty code” thru empowering hair free Women, Men and Youth unveiling shame, unlocking truth, and becoming self aware, while assisting in healing the community as a walking example of confidence and self acceptance!

I call your attention to Global Bare Head Beauty Day (GBHB) on August 17, 2016 on the plaza of the Adam Clayton Powel Jr. State Office Building 12-8pm

It’s so much more than just being hair free!

“Bare is to Bald.. what Nude is to Naked” one is Inviting as the later is considered Vulgar.  A large number of people are Hair Free and for those hiding not living emotionally in their best place because of inner shame, regrets, resentment, and personal tragedies that they aren’t addressing we empower, and align.  If we don’t feel good about ourselves, then how would we begin to address some of the issues across the board in our personal and professional environments.  Unveiled Unlocked is using our unique set of strengths to forge a new frontier, helping people accept each other and the differences that makes them fully human.

Global Bare Head Beauty Day (GBHB) is a call to HUMANS to put another perspective of Beauty in place, to provoke emotional healing, awaken the asleep and empower those silenced with shame around image and self worth! It is a global initiative that illuminates and celebrates the Hair Free Community, asking all human beings to unite for this one day  – Wednesday August 17, 2016 in HARLEM, New York and via telecasted to major cities all over the world from 12pm-8pm Eastern Standard Time, to strike a claim that Women, Men and Young People who are fully or partially Hair Free be released from all negative judgment, interrogation, loathing and violence on any level that impacts the natural order of Being Human making it difficult for him or her to walk freely unveiled and unlocked from the shackles of an appearance as value or worth.

We hope you can make it!
